This year’s HullPIC celebrates 10 years as an important conference, gathering the shipping industry to discuss the future of clean shipping. From 25-27 February just outside Düsseldorf, Germany, ship operators, NGOs and technology providers will collaborate and present topics that will drive innovation and showcase the benefits of a clean hull.

"HullPIC celebrates 10 years, and we have seen an increasing interest for the topic of hull performance during these years. The industry is now more educated on the impact of a clean hull, and the speed of innovation is high. A clean hull is essential for making the shipping industry sustainable and by gathering the industry here in Düsseldorf we can collect insights from the industry and various key players to collectively support the industry’s sustainability targets," says Morten Sten Johansen, Global Category Director, Hull Performance, Jotun.

Jotun has been one of the initiators of both HullPIC and its sister conference PortPIC, and this year’s conference will dive into topics like utilization of data, sensor technology, innovations in antifoulings, performance monitoring and hull cleaning.
"This are all topics that both we in Jotun, and the industry as a whole, has a great interest in. Since we in Jotun introduced hull performance as a category almost 15 years ago, the industry has followed along, and today we all know that hull performance is not determined by antifoulings only, as all these elements we will discuss at HullPIC play together to ensure a clean hull. The result of this will protect biodiversity, preserve fuel and cut carbon emissions – all of which is a part of Jotun’s Clean shipping commitment and what we work tirelessly on every day.”
This year the conference has a record number of attendees from the industry, with more than 120 participants.
“The knowledge we all get from the attendees through presentations and discussions during these days will help steer the shipping industry into a cleaner future. I am thrilled that this conference has established itself as an open and transparent forum where competitors and partners meet up, so we are all navigating after the same compass,” says Johansen in Jotun.
Jotun, the global leader in marine coatings, is excited to continue its legacy and long-lasting presence at Nor-Shipping. Between June 3rd and June 6th at this year’s Nor-Shipping, Jotun will launch new innovations that will enable a cleaner shipping industry. A brand-new global report on the industry’s biofouling management and the consequences will also be presented.
HullPIC 10 highlights advances in performance monitoring
A trend towards more use of data-driven, digital vessel performance systems is gathering pace in the shipping industry. This was one of the main takeaways from the 10th HullPIC conference last month. Collaboration between stakeholders, continuous innovation, and knowledge sharing were also emphasised as critical drivers for advancing performance management and sustainability efforts.
