Jotun provides support to the COVAX programme

In the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, Jotun has donated NOK 5 million to UNICEF and the COVAX programme.

Vaccinating the world against the COVID 19 is the largest vaccine procurement and supply operation in history. Jotun has offered support to UNICEF and partners who are working to ensure that no country is left behind.

About COVAX

COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access (COVAX) is a global initiative to ensure equitable access to vaccines. Directed by the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunizations (GAVI), the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) and the World Health Organisation (WHO), COVAX is one of the three pillars of the Access to COVID-19 Tools (ACT) Accelerator.

The ACT Accelerator is a ground-breaking global collaboration to accelerate the development, production, and equitable access to COVID-19 tests, treatments, and vaccines. With significant advances in research and development by academia, private sector and government initiatives, the ACT-Accelerator is working towards ending the acute phase of the pandemic by deploying the tests, treatments, and vaccines the world needs.

Vaccine roll-out

Committed to accelerating the development and manufacture of COVID-19 vaccines, COVAX coordinates resources to provide equitable access to vaccines, tests, and therapies. COVAX works in cooperation with the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) to purchase, store and transport the vaccines to 92 in low- and medium-income countries. Jotun donated NOK 5 million in 2021 to UNICEF and the COVAX programme in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

A race against time

Since the spring of 2019, the global coronavirus pandemic has not only resulted in illness and mortality but has had a significant impact on health care systems, global supply chain networks and local economies, disrupting the lives of billions of people around the world. While vaccines are now widely available in some parts of the world, there are many countries were supplies and distribution capacity are limited.

Global equitable access to vaccines, particularly to protect health care workers and those most at risk, is the only way to mitigate the public health and economic impact of COVID-19 and its variants. After all, with a fast-moving pandemic, no one is safe unless everyone is safe.
